About
I design and build the layer between plant systems and everything else. In practice that means unified namespaces and data contracts, edge platforms running on hardware that fits in a cabinet, telemetry that ensure solutions are running smoothly, and planning tools optimizing industrial schedules.
I am co-founder and CTPO of Start-Alpha, where we build a sovereign control plane for distributed infrastructure — one declarative blueprint deployed, governed and recovered across a fleet, with no assumption of constant connectivity.
Alongside that I work with industrial groups as a freelance architect and delivery engineer: UNS backbone design across a hundred-plus sites, cost-optimised observability for a critical manufacturing process, optimisation and key software contributions.
How I think about it
The through-line compresses to three words: small, open, reversible. The plant already works. Whatever you add should fit in the space available, should be built on standards that outlive whoever sold them, and should be removable by the team that comes after you.
That last one is not theoretical. I built a k3s fleet that another supplier operates today. Handing it over is the only real test of an architecture's reversibility, and most designs fail it.
In the open
I write twinmodel, a Go toolkit for authoring OPC UA information models as reviewable YAML in git rather than hand-written XML. It exists because the data contract deserves the same treatment as the rest of the code.
If you are working on something in this space, schedule a call — I would like to hear about it.
